Responsible to:

SENCO

Deputy Principal 

Principal

Teachers

School Board of Trustees.

 

Tenure: 

Fixed term – 

 

Hours of Employment: 

Part time 17-22.5 hrs per week

Term time only.

 

Remuneration:

Remuneration as per the Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement.

To be negotiated in relation to qualifications and experience.

The Teacher Aide will:

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

 

  • To actively support the general aims of the school to ensure the maximum possible development of each individual student and to help students achieve their goals.
  • To provide supervised support and assistance to staff and students.
  • To assist in providing a safe, effective, empathetic and enjoyable learning situation for students and to establish positive working relationships with them.
  • To maintain high personal and professional standards, while at all times acting in the best interest of the student.

KEY TASKS

 

  • Facilitate student learning either individually or in small groups, under the guidance of SENCO and teachers, in a range of settings in the school and the community.  This may involve simplifying instructions and assisting in the modification of materials.
  • Assist teachers to prepare and maintain teaching resources, eg. photocopying, tape/video recording, maintaining equipment, computer work.
  • Monitor and record student progress as required.
  • Participate in professional and personal development.
  • Assist with the personal care of students.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and tidy environment.
  • Maintain safe practices in relation to student rights and prevention of personal injury to both students and staff.
  • Assist with programmes developed to meet students needs.
  • Assist as reader/writer in tests/exams as needed.
  • Any other duties as may be required.
